Our trail worker groomer, Curry R. Thompson, died last night in a fire at the Banadad operations buildings. He and his dog (Ginny) went to sleep and a fire broke out and the buildings burned to the ground. The Fire Marshal is investigating.
We mourn his lost and will be assessing the situation when the authorities are finished at the site.
I spoke to him on the phone shortly before the fire broke out and he was very happy with our current situation and was looking forward to the next days work on the trail. We we planning to "break trail" and "pack" the Western remote parts of the trail after this recent heavy snow.
Below is a picture he sent me the previous night (Monday) after our evening checking planning call.
Rest in Peace Curry and Ginny
Everytime I met Curry he had a handshake and a smile for me, asking how I was doing. He would help anyone and loved the Northwoods. I will miss Curry for sure.
So sorry to hear this tragic news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Curry, Ginny and all who‘s lives they touched. John & Suzanne Gappa
